Key Legislation to Watch
Legislation Impacting Ohio’s Rivers
Stay up-to-date with important bills and policies affecting our waterways.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's Division of Surface Water is proposing amendments to Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3745-39, which governs the Stormwater National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit program. These proposed changes aim to update regulations for small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s), industries, and construction sites to enhance water quality management across the state. The rules were submitted to the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) on October 28, 2024, and are currently open for public comment. Learn More

Sensitive Fish Species Alive and Well in Scenic River
When designated as a State Scenic River in 2006 the Mohican River was classified as Exceptional Warm Water Habitat based on the Ohio EPA's criteria. A more recent survey and report from 2021 shows a significant decline in water quality. It’s not just a river—it’s a storyteller, a sanctuary, and a shared legacy worth protecting for future generations. Learn More

Our groundwater supplies
Although not a State Scenic River itself, our groundwater supplies play a critical role in supporting our Scenic Rivers by helping to maintain water in our Scenic Rivers during low flow, or drought conditions. Check out this video by PBS describing stressors on our global water supply. Learn More
